Our Approach

Doing this properly is now part of the specification

Our customers are increasingly asked to account for their own supply chains — and that question travels upstream to us.

European buyers of welding consumables and steel now send supplier qualification questionnaires that ask about energy, emissions, responsible sourcing and safety performance. Answering them is no longer a courtesy; it is a condition of supply.

We would rather publish what we do than fill in the same form thirty times. The commitments below are the ones we can actually measure at the plant, and we report against them rather than against ambitions.

Two of them are externally audited. Our environmental management system is certified to ISO 14001:2015 and our occupational health and safety management system to ISO 45001:2018, both by Royal Impact Certification Ltd. and both current. The certificates are published in full — number, scope, issuing body and expiry date.

Where We Focus

Six things we manage

None of these are new initiatives. They are the parts of running a powder plant that have an environmental and safety consequence, managed deliberately rather than incidentally.

Energy

Grinding and screening are electricity-intensive. Reducing the energy each tonne of powder takes to produce is the single largest lever we have over our footprint, and it is measured at the mill.

Material recovery

Powder that falls outside a size specification is not waste. It is re-screened, re-blended or returned to an earlier stage. The economics and the environmental case point the same way.

Dust and emissions

Dust extraction is a safety system before it is an environmental one. Collected fines are recovered back into production wherever the chemistry allows. Managed under ISO 14001:2015.

Packaging

Moisture-protective packing is not optional for materials like atomized ferrosilicon — but pack sizes are matched to customer batch sizes so that less of it is used, and returnable formats are offered where the customer can handle them.

People and safety

Powder handling carries real risks: dust exposure, ignition sources, manual handling. Safety performance is the measure we watch most closely, because it is the one our own people feel — and it is audited against ISO 45001:2018.

Responsible sourcing

We buy ferro alloys, metals and minerals from producers and importers worldwide. Where customers need country-of-origin evidence or conflict minerals declarations, we provide them.

The Numbers

What we measure

Figures without numbers are marketing. These are the measures we report against — each one is filled in from plant records, not estimated.

Before publishing. Each figure above is a blank. Fill it in from plant records, or delete the measure entirely if it is not something AIM Alloys tracks. A sustainability page with unverified numbers on it is worse than no page at all — it is the first thing a customer auditor will test. The list lives in SUSTAINABILITY_METRICS in build/build.py.

Responsible Sourcing

Where our material comes from

We have been buying ferro alloys, metals, minerals and refractories since 1983, domestically and by import. That length of relationship is itself part of the control: we know our suppliers and we know their plants.

Where a customer needs country-of-origin evidence, a conflict minerals declaration, or a completed supplier questionnaire, we provide it. Ask our sales team and it will come back with the consignment paperwork.
